Avocet



Avocet, any of several long-legged wading birds (genus Recurvirostra). One species flourishes in Europe, Asia, and Africa. It uses its long curving beak to sweep the water in search of the small aquatic animals on which it feeds. It has black-and-white plumage. The related American avocet has a pinkish head and breast.
