Avocado



Avocado (Persea americana), tropical evergreen tree native to the United States, Mexico, and the West Indies. The fruit, also called avocado or alligator pear, has a dark green or purple rind, bright green flesh rich in protein, vitamins, iron, and oil, and a large central seed. Avocados are also grown as house plants.
