United States Naval Observatory



Naval Observatory, United States, astronomical observatory and source of official standard time in the United States. Founded in Washington, D.C., in 1833, the observatory has moved several times to obtain better observing conditions. Since 1955 its main station has been in Flagstaff, Ariz.
