National Security Council



National Security Council (NSC), U.S. defense council created by Congress in 1947 as part of the executive office of the president, to advise on matters relating to national security and defense policies. Members include the vice-president and the secretaries of state and defense. Special advisers are the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
