Nationalization

Nationalization, governmental control and ownership of an industry. It is often practiced by socialist or communist governments, which believe that a nationalized industry can provide goods and services to the citizenry more efficiently and equitably than private businesses can. Underdeveloped countries have also nationalized industries to remove them from foreign control. Industries commonly nationalized include transportation, electric and gas utilities, and telephone services.
