National anthem

National anthem, official song of a nation, played on state or ceremonial occasions, intended as an expression of unity and loyalty to the country's ideals. One of the best-known national anthems is France's La Marseillaise, composed during the French Revolution of 1792. The text of the American anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, was written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key, set to a popular English tune.
