Pánfilo de Narváez



Narváez, Pánfilo de (c. 1470–1528), Spanish conquistador. Under Diego de Velázquez, he played a major role in subjecting Cuba to Spain. In 1520 Velázquez sent him on a punitive expedition against Hernán Cortés in Mexico that failed. To subjugate and exploit Florida, he also led an unsuccessful expedition on which he died.
