Imre Nagy

Nagy, Imre (1895?–1958), Hungarian communist leader and premier (1953–55). His criticism of Soviet influence led to his removal from office, but during the Oct. 1956 revolution he became premier again briefly. After Soviet troops crushed the uprising, Nagy was tried and executed in secret.
