Murre, seabirds (genus Uria) in the auk family. They inhabit cliffs on the coasts of the North Atlantic and North Pacific oceans. Murres, approximately 16 in (41 cm) long, are brownish black, with white breasts. In their breeding season, they nest in large numbers, the female in each pair laying one egg on the bare rock.
