Asphyxiation



Asphyxiation, complex of symptoms resulting from a lack of oxygen or excess of carbon dioxide in the lungs. The commonest causes are drowning, suffocation or strangulation, inhalation of poisonous gases, and the obstruction of the larynx, trachea, or bronchi (as in severe cases of croup and asthma).
