Andrea del Sarto

Andrea del Sarto (1486–1531), leading 16th-century Florentine painter, influenced by Michelangelo and Albrecht Dürer and renowned for delicately colored church frescoes. He rivaled Raphael's classicism but foreshadowed Mannerism through his pupils Jacopo da Pontormo, Il Rosso, and Giorgio Vasari. Two of his well- known paintings are Madonna of the Harpies and Holy Family.
