Akiva Baer ben Joseph (c. A.D. 50–135), Jewish rabbi, one of the greatest compilers of Hebrew Oral Law, whose work later formed the basis of the Mishnah. The Mishnah is part of the Talmud, a collection of writings constituting Jewish civil and religious law. After supporting a revolt against the Romans, he was executed as a rebel
