Akita



Akita, powerful hunting dog originating in northern Japan in the 17th century. Standing 20–27 in (51–69 cm) high at the shoulder and weighing 75–110 lbs (34–50 kg), the Akita possesses a solid body and a short, stiff coat. Sometimes called the royal dog of Japan, the Akita is considered a symbol of good health and has been designated a national treasure by the Japanese government.
