Airborne troops

Airborne troops, or paratroops or sky soldiers, soldiers brought into a combat area by parachute drop or airplane. Airborne troops have been a part of military strategy since World War II, often figuring in surprise attacks. After landing behind enemy lines, the troops may be used to destroy bridges, communications, and supplies or for hand-to-hand combat. The airborne troops of the U.S. Army are all volunteers.
