Aeneid



Aeneid, epic Latin poem, 12 books in length, depicting the life of the mythical Trojan hero Aeneas. The poem, written by Vergil between 30 and 19 B.C., describes the great achievements of Aeneas as he sought to create a new nation. Vergil selected his theme to bring glory to the emperor, Augustus, and to reconfirm the integrity of religious values in ancient Rome.
