Academic freedom

Academic freedom, right of members of the academic community to freedom of thought and expression. The American Association of University Professors' code of conduct proposes complete freedom of research but restricts classroom freedom to open discussion of the teacher's own subject. Despite this stand, scholastic immunity has been affected by boards of trustees, government agencies that fund some university projects, and students who object to the politics or theories of certain professors.
