Bikini

Bikini, atoll in the Marshall Islands in the central Pacific Ocean. It was the site of U.S. nuclear bomb tests in the 1940s and 1950s. Inhabitants evacuated during the tests began to return in the early 1970s, but the island was again declared uninhabitable because of dangerously high radiation levels in 1978.
