Jerboa, any of various small desert-living rodent (family Dipodidac) with long tails and long hind legs. Jerboas have large eyes and ears, short front legs, and move by hopping. They are common in the deserts of North Africa and Asia, where they live in holes and emerge at night to feed on leaves and seeds.
