Peter Robinson Biography

(1953– ), The Benefit Forms, Overdrawn Account, Anaglypta, This Other Life, More About the Weather, Entertaining Fates

British poet, born in Salford, educated at the Universities of York and Cambridge; he taught at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and at Cambridge before becoming a lecturer at Tohoku University, Japan, in 1989. Robinson's poetry was first collected in the small press editions The Benefit Forms (1978), Overdrawn Account (1980), and Anaglypta (1985). His principal collections include This Other Life (1988), More About the Weather (1989), and Entertaining Fates (1992). Many of his poems explore aspects of everyday experience and personal relationships with a restrained lyrical intensity that owes much to the skill with which he inlays rhyme unobtrusively into the patterns of ordinary speech. Leaf-Viewing (1992) consists exclusively of poems reflecting his first two years in Japan. Robinson's other publications include the critical essays of In the Circumstances (1992). He is the editor of The Collected Poems of Adrian Stokes (1981).
