Mosco, Maisie

(British)

Maisie Mosco was born in Manchester and has worked as a journalist. She has written a number of radio plays as well as many best-selling sagas and romances. However, it was her family saga set in the Manchester Jewish community, Almonds and Raisins (1979), that established her reputation. This novel follows a typical immigrant Jewish family from its arrival in Manchester, penniless and seeking accommodation, through its problems with earning a living and assimilation over three generations. The saga is continued in Scattered Seed (1980) and Children's Children (1981). The characters are warm and believable, the background is authentic and the books are true page-turners.
