(US, 1928– )

Judith Krantz made her name in the late 1970s with a series of novels centred on beautiful women in glamorous settings who compete and win in business and love. Princess Daisy (1980) is a modern-day fairytale about a Russian aristocrat stripped of her birthright. Following emigration to New York, she begins the climb to dazzling wealth, happiness, and success in the New World. Mistral's Daughter (1983), set in the Paris art world of the 1920s and the high-fashion world of the 1980s, is the story of three beautiful, red-haired women and their relationship with Julien Mistral, a tempestuous and romantic painter. Dazzle (1990) centres on a glamorous and successful photographer, Jazz Kilkullen, and the three men who love her, while I'll Take Manhattan (1986) is the story of magazine editor Maxi Amberville's fight to create the most successful glossy in New York.
