Forbes was born in Hampstead, London, and has been a full-time writer since 1971. Begin with Deadlock (1988), in which a senior figure in Soviet military intelligence disappears. Russian and British governments confer, as a connection with bullion robberies in Switzerland emerges. By Stealth (1992) opens with a kidnapping. The subsequent investigation develops into a counter-action against threats to Western interests from conspirators in the Far East. The Prime Minister's assassination throws Britain into chaos in This United State (1999). An unknown power begins a brilliantly planned attempt to take over the country. In The Power (1994) an explosion at a London intelligence office leads to the discovery of surprising and sinister American links.
