Home Insurance Online Quote

How Home Insurance Online Quote Sites Work

Buying home insurance, or just checking up on rates, can be a hassle when done offline due to the need to call or visit multiple agencies to collect all the information. Fortunately, there is a much faster way: by getting a home insurance online quote, you can get the facts you need quickly – and in some cases, by visiting a single web site.

Most insurance companies have online home insurance quote services set up for the public to use, and there are also several quote sites that will allow multiple insurance companies to be queried at the same time. One thing to keep in mind with all such sites is browser compatibility – some of them only work with Internet Explorer (IE).

To get a home owner insurance online quote from either type of site, you will need to enter your zip code and sometimes the actual address of the house to be insured. The site will then ask for many details about the condition of the home and overall premises, whether it is ever rented out or left unoccupied, if business is conducted there, and whether certain fixtures are present. Inquirers should also expect to be asked if key aspects of the house are in good repair. After all of this, you will finally get to choose the coverage levels you’re interested in. Along with coverage for the house itself, there will be selectors for covering outbuildings, personal property, and liability coverage levels.

It is important to note that some property-insurance companies also sell auto, health, or other insurance as well. These companies may offer a discount if you already have one of their other types of policies. If you’re on a single insurer’s site, they’ll likely have a spot in their form to let them know about any qualifying policies you hold.

Once all the data is submitted, an insurance company’s site will immediately give you a home insurance online quote based on the information you’ve provided and the coverage you’ve selected. If you’d like to choose that particular company or talk to one of its agents for in-depth information, there’ll be an option to forward the quote to an agent near you so a live meeting can be set up.

The other major way to get online home insurance quotes is to use a quote aggregation site, otherwise known as an “insurance comparison” site. These sites ask basically the same questions as the sites belonging to insurance companies, but instead of instantly rendering a quote they send the information to a multitude of companies they’ve affiliated with. The user is then contacted by agents from the individual companies, who separately give their quotes. It is still much faster than calling each one, and since the agents know other companies will be competing, they are more likely to give their best offer.

Once you’ve gotten quotes and narrowed down your list of companies to deal with, you’ll be well-armed to negotiate with agents to set the final price. From that point, all you need to do is finalize the deal and you’ll have your perfect home insurance policy.
