Alan Macgregor Cranston



Cranston, Alan Macgregor (1914– ), U.S. senator. Elected to the Senate as a Democrat from California in 1969, Cranston has served as assistant majority leader (whip) and chairman of the Senate Veteran's Affairs Committee. In 1984 he made an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. He was cited by the Senate Ethics Committee for improperly using his influence in behalf of a savings and loan association (1990).
