Covenanters



Covenanters, 16th- and 17th-century Scottish Presbyterians pledged by covenants to defend their religion against Anglican influences. They were suppressed both by Oliver Cromwell and by the Stuart kings. Their savage persecution after the Restoration was known as the “killing time.”
