John Cotton



Cotton, John (1584–1652), powerful Puritan minister of Boston, Mass., noted for his didactic writings. Born in England, Cotton fled to the colonies in 1632 to avoid religious persecution. He was later to become involved in the banishment of Anne Hutchinson and Roger Williams for their heretical views.
