Corregidor

Corregidor, fortified island near the entrance to Manila Bay and the Philippines. During World War II, Corregidor, was occupied by United States and Filipino troops who defended the island but eventually surrendered in 1942 to Japanese troops after extensive bombing. U.S. military forces reclaimed the island in 1945 and later dedicated the historic fortress as a national shrine to the World War II troops who died there.
