Corpus Christi



Corpus Christi (pop. 349,894), city in southeastern Texas situated on the Corpus Christi Bay of the Texas Gulf Coast, seat of Nueces County. Corpus Christi was founded in 1839 and played an active role in the Mexican War and the Civil War. The city is the second largest port in Texas, and one of the centers of the vast Texas oil and gas industry. Corpus Christi also refines aluminum and manufactures fertilizers, cotton and corn products, cement, and chemical products.
