Cornstalk

Cornstalk (1720?–77), Shawnee chief who led his tribe in wars against colonial settlers in the Ohio Territory. He and his warriors were defeated by a regiment of Virginians at the Battle of Point Pleasant (1774). Three years later, while visiting Point Pleasant, Cornstalk and 4 other Shawnees were killed by a mob of townspeople seeking vengeance for the murder of a white settler by members of another tribe. His murder led to other wars between the Shawnees and settlers.
