John Singleton Copley



Copley, John Singleton (1783–1815), portrait painter of colonial Massachusetts. Although he settled in London, where he painted historical subjects, Copley's modern reputation rests largely on his American portraits, including those of Paul Revere, Samuel Adams (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston), and Daniel Hubbard (Art Institute, Chicago).
