Consumer Product Safety Commission



Consumer Product Safety Commission , independent U.S. government agency that sets national safety standards. The agency promotes the development of voluntary safety standards by manufacturers; establishes and enforces safety standards for product development, manufacture, and performance; investigates product-related injuries; and in some cases recalls or forbids the sale of unsafe products. Established in 1972, the Consumer Product Safety Commission consists of 5 members appointed by the president for a 7-year term.
