Congo River



Congo River, or Zaire River, second-longest river in Africa. It flows north and west 2,700 mi (4,345 km) from its source in the Chambezi River, Zambia, to the Atlantic Ocean in western Zaire. In volume of water, it is second only to the Amazon. The Congo River was renamed the Zaire by Zaire's former President Mobutu in 1971.
