Cold sore

Cold sore, skin lesion, generally of the lips or nose, caused by the Herpes simplex virus. Often characterized by blisters filled with a clear liquid, cold sores may be triggered by infections such as the common cold or pneumonia. The virus frequently becomes dormant, persisting in the skin between attacks.
