Cockroach



Cockroach, or roach, flat-bodied insect of the family Blattidae with long antennae and hardened forewings that protect the hindwings, as in the beetle. Cockroaches feed on fungi and on plant and animal remains but also come indoors to eat exposed food, book bindings, and even wood. Sizes range from 0.5 in (0.6 cm) to 3 in (7.6 cm). There are about 70 species in the United States. Some species can fly.
