Christian X



Christian X (1870–1947), king of Denmark (1912–47), king of Iceland (1912–44), symbol of Danish resistance to German occupation during World War II. In 1915, he granted a new constitution ending privileges of upper classes and admitting to women's rights. After the German invasion of Denmark in 1940 he continued to occupy the throne, but was under house arrest 1943–45 for refusing to cooperate with the Germans.
