Saint Catherine of Siena



Catherine of Siena, Saint (1347–80), Italian religious and mystic known for her visions, charity, and diplomatic skill. Her influence over Pope Gregory XI (1331–78) led him to leave Avignon in 1377 and return the papacy to Rome, thus ending the “Babylonian captivity” of the papacy. Her feast day is Apr. 30.
