Catalysis

Catalysis, change in the rate of a chemical reaction by an additive (a catalyst speeds up reactions; an inhibitor slows down reactions) that is itself unchanged at the end of the reaction. Catalysts are widely used in industry. All living organisms are dependent on the complex catalysts called enzymes, which regulate biochemical reactions.
