Castile and Aragón

Castile and Aragón, 2 kingdoms of Spain, united in 1479 by Isabella of Castile and her husband, Ferdinand V. Aragón is in the northeast of Spain, bordering France; Castile, in central and northern Spain, surrounds the city of Madrid. The union of Castile and Aragón formed the core of the modern Spanish state and served as Ferdinand and Isabella's base in their struggle, eventually successful, to drive the Moors from southern Spain (Andalusia).
