Kit Carson



Carson, Kit (Christopher Carson; 1809–68), American frontiersman. Carson worked as a trapper, hunter, and guide throughout the Southwest and accompanied John C. Fremont on his Western expeditions (1842–46). In 1854 he became an Indian agent in New Mexico. He was a Union general in the Civil War.
