Carracci

Carracci, family of Bolognese painters. Lodovico Carracci (1555–1619), a painter of the Mannerist school, founded an academy of art in Bologna. Agostino Carracci (1557–1602) is famous primarily for his prints and Communion of St. Jerome (c.1590). Annibale Carracci (1560–1609) is considered the greatest painter of the family. Much influenced by Correggio, his work, particularly the vast decorations for the Farnese palace (1597–1604), introduced a strong classical element into a basically Mannerist style.
