Joseph ben Ephraim Caro



Caro, Joseph ben Ephraim (1488–1575), Jewish Talmudist and philosopher whose codification of Jewish law, the Shulhan Arukh (1565), became the standard authority. Caro's family were Spanish Jews who settled in Constantinople; in later life he became a leader of the Jewish community in Palestine.
