Cape Canaveral



Cape Canaveral, promontory on the eastern coast of Florida, site of the John F. Kennedy Space Center called Cape Kennedy 1963–73. It became famous with the launching of the first U.S. satellite, Explorer 1, in 1958, and the first manned lunar exploration in 1969. The cape was established as a national seashore in 1975.
