Canton



Canton (pop. 394,106), city in northeastern Ohio, about 60 mi (97 km) southeast of Cleveland; seat of Stark County. An important industrial center, Canton manufactures rubber goods, steel, bearings, electrical appliances, paints, motors, and bricks. Settled in 1805, Canton was the home of President William McKinley, who is commemorated there by the National McKinley Memorial.
