Julia Margaret Cameron

Cameron, Julia Margaret (1815–79), Indian-born British pioneer photographer, best known for her portraits of such Victorians as Alfred, Lord Tennyson and Ellen Terry. Believing that a photograph should capture the spirit of its subject, Cameron put less emphasis on technique, and the blurred quality of some of her photographs is a distinction of her style. A revised edition of her book Victorian Photographers of Famous Men and Women appeared in 1973.
