Bosporus



Bosporus, Turkish strait 19 mi (30.6 km) long and about 0.5–2.5 mi (0.8–3.6 km) wide connecting the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara (which is connected to the Aegean arm of the Mediterranean by the Dardanelles strait). Historically important as the sole sea link between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, it was bridged in 1973.
