Edwin Thomas Booth



Booth, Edwin Thomas (1833–92), U.S. actor, famous on the New York and London stage. His Shakespearean roles, particularly Hamlet, were considered theatrical landmarks. He retired briefly in 1865, because of the scandal surrounding his brother, John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated President Lincoln.
