Bolshoi Ballet

Bolshoi Ballet, the foremost ballet company of the former USSR. The Moscow company (established 1825) was overshadowed by the more traditional St. Petersburg companies until the early 20th century, when it was taken over by Alexander Gorsky, who reshaped the Bolshoi. It has been one of the world's leading companies since the late 1950s.
