Bog

Bog, spongy, waterlogged ground composed chiefly of decaying vegetation. Often formed in stagnant lakes, bogs are mainly produced by sphagnum (bog moss), from which peat is formed. Their acidity makes bogs good natural preservers, and in Europe and America they have yielded plant and animal remains from earlier ages.
