Boers



Boers (Dutch, “farmers”), term applied to South African inhabitants of Dutch, German, and French Huguenot descent who settled in the region beginning in 1652. Now called Afrikaners, they speak their own language (Afrikaans). Their racial attitudes were responsible for the rise of apartheid.
