Blazing star



Blazing star, or gay feather, any of about 30 species of perennial North American wildflowers of the family Asteraceae, found in prairies and woodlands. The blazing star grows 1 to 6 ft (30 to 180 cm) high, with clusters of purple or pink blossoms surrounded by bracts (leaflike structures the same color as the flowers).
